Music by Steve Sherwood
National AIDS Memorial Grove – Golden Gate Park
Come enjoy the sun, music, flora, and friends in the beautiful National AIDS Memorial Grove. This event is open to all flow artists – fanning, flagging, poi, staff, and their supporters. Flags available for use or just relax, take in the fun dance music and colorful visuals. Bring a beverage, a lunch, something to sit on, and enjoy.
Steve Sherwood stumbled upon Flagging in the Park during his first summer in San Francisco and enjoyed an unforgettable sunny afternoon in the AIDS Memorial Grove that culminated in his first experience with spinning poi. A decade later he was tapped to play what has since become a legendary 9 hour underground set at REAL BAD XXIII during Folsom Street Fair weekend. This set was a major turning point for Sherwood, winning praise from his peers as well as several of his musical influences that supported him on the dance floor. Then in early 2012 he demonstrated mastery of a more upbeat, vocal sound with a 7 hour set at PLAY T-Dance while also appearing at San Francisco Pride, Up Your Alley Street Fair, and Lazy Bear Weekend. Steve has toured extensively across the United States and appeared internationally at events in London, Vancouver, Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland and is a resident DJ for Bearracuda and Union T-Dance. Check out his tunes here.

About FITP: In 1997 a group of San Francisco flaggers started a tradition of celebrating life by gathering in the newly dedicated National AIDS Memorial Grove. Here we are seventeen years later; the DJs, organizers, and participants are donating their time, energy and love to help raise money for mostly local (sometimes national) charities.
What to expect: The National AIDS Memorial Grove is in a gorgeously secluded meadow in Golden Gate Park. There are little or no services near by. Often the fog is licking at the sky above especially in the summer, bring sunscreen and a wrap. Bring something to sit on; pack a lunch or bring snacks and beverages; flags are available for use; usually a few furry friends roaming. Our DJ spins vocal fun-filled dance music and flow artists eagerly enjoy and share their art with newcomers. No pressure to participate, come relax and take in the color and beauty of our tribe.
Special 2013 pairing: Flagging In The Park is proud to partner with GRGR/West in 2013 to celebrate the 25th Anniversary Year of their fundraiser and dance event – REAL BAD. All funds raised this season five FITP events will be donated to our selected beneficiaries on behalf of GRGR/West to help raise an additional $100k for their 25th Anniversary.
